R series (two-stage and three-stage)
Our complete range of helical gearmotors provides the optimum size and power solution for every drive task. And for operators with a “weight-watching” issue, our multi-stage gear units provide something special: Thanks to their die-cast aluminum design, the models R07, R17 and R27 are three particularly efficient lightweights – ideal as satellite drives and for use in light machine constructions. Reduced backlash helical gear units are also available for particularly precise requirements.

RM series

Our extra-slim parallel shaft helical gearmotors are the perfect solution when space is limited. W series
SPIROPLAN® gearmotors are robust right-angle gearmotors with SPIROPLAN® gearing. They have three main differences from the helical-worm gear units: the material combination of the steel-on-steel gearing, the special tooth meshing relationships and the aluminum housing. These features make SPIROPLAN® gearmotors very quiet, wear-free and lightweight. The particularly short design and the aluminum housing make for very compact and lightweight drive solutions. The wear-free gearing and the life-long lubrication facilitate long periods of maintenance-free operation. As the oil fill is independent of the mounting position, SPIROPLAN® gearmotors can be installed in any mounting position without altering the quantity of oil. Identical hole spacing in the foot and face as well as the equal shaft height to both provides you with diverse mounting options.

Combining VARIBLOC® and VARIMOT® variable speed gear units with reduction gear units of all designs in the SEW-EURODRIVE modular concept creates variable speed drives with a low output speed and high output torque. Combining variable speed gearmotors with helical, parallel shaft helical, helical-bevel and helical-worm gear units has proven effective at low speeds.

Speed can be adjusted mechanically, e.g. with a handwheel, or electromechanically using a servo motor. Multi-speed motors can be applied for further enlargement of the setting range of variable speed gear units.


VU/VZ series
The VU and VZ designs of the VARIBLOC® wide V-belt variable speed gearmotors are used with power ranges of up to 45 kW. Typical speed setting ranges are 1:4, 1:6 and 1:8. The U- or Z-shaped power flow and numerous combination possibilities with reduction gear units mean that these speed gearmotors can be supplied in a broad range of designs. They can easily be tailored to the most diverse machine structures.

Series D VARIMOT® friction disk variable speed gearmotors are intended for power ranges up to 11 kW and speed setting ranges 1:4 or 1:5. The contact pressure between the driving pulley and the friction ring required for torque transmission is set automatically. The speed control can be adjusted even when the gearmotor is at a standstill.

DT / DV series
DT/DV series AC motors and AC brake motors are the ideal match for SEW-EURODRIVE standard gear units. Our wide range of variants ensures that we have the right motor for your application, whether you need 2-pole, 4-pole, 6-pole or 8-pole or multi-speed. SEW-EURODRIVE brake motors have integrated DC safety disc brakes. The brake control is installed in the terminal box as standard, but is also available in control cabinet version as an option. The patented two-coil brake system facilitates high starting frequency and positioning accuracy with particularly short response and reaction times.

DAS series
The beverage and food industry and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry place high hygiene demands on production facilities. The drive solutions used in the past made it very difficult to clean the production systems as thoroughly as required. Standard motors often come equipped with cooling fins and fans in which dirt can accumulate and germs and bacteria may be distributed in air swirls. The ASEPTIC motors of the DAS series have a smooth surface and are not equipped with fans.

Another problem occurs if the drive components cannot tolerate aggressive cleansing agents and disinfectants and surfaces are damaged (e.g. coating is damaged). This means that hygienic guidelines can no longer be met. However, SEW-EURODRIVE ­offers a suitable solution for this problem: ASEPTIC motors of the DAS series with the ASEPTICplus drive package are largely resistant to chemicals, cleaning agents and ­disinfectants.

Surprisingly few mechanical engineers and operators know that over 95% of a motor’s life cycle costs are energy costs. This is why only few plants are fitted with energy efficient motors.

KS corrosion protection and OS surface protection
SEW-EURODRIVE offers various optional protective measures for operation of motors and gearmotors under special environmental conditions. We provide KS corrosion protection and OS surface protection.

Optimum protection for motors is offered by a combination of corrosion and surface protection.

KS corrosion ­protection
KS corrosion protection for motors comprises the following measures:

  • All retaining screws that are loosened during operation are made of stainless steel.
  • The nameplates are made of stainless steel. Various motor parts are coated with a top coat.
  • Flange contact surfaces and shaft ends are treated with a temporary anti-corrosion agent.
  • Additional measures for brake motors.
BM / BMG / BR brakes – additional options
On request, SEW-EURODRIVE motors and gearmotors can be supplied with an ­integrated mechanical brake. The brake is a DC electromagnetic disc brake that is ­released electrically and applied with spring force. The brake is applied in case of a power failure.

It meets the basic safety requirements. The brake can also be released mechanically if equipped with manual brake release. For this purpose, the brake is supplied with either a hand lever with automatic reset or an adjustable setscrew. The brake is controlled with a brake control that is either installed in the motor wiring space or the control cabinet.

Additional options
Plug connector type IS

Optional for DR/DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. The IS plug connector is delivered instead of the standard terminal box. The upper section of the IS plug connector (mating connector) is included in the scope of delivery. The IS plug connector is particularly compact and offers the following connection options:
  • Motor, single-speed or two-pole multi-speed
  • Brake
  • Temperature monitoring (TF or TH)
Installed plug connector type AB / AD / AM

Optional for DR/DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. The mounted AB.., AD.., and AM.. plug connector systems are based on the Han Modular® plug connector system made by Harting.
AB.., AD.. and AM.. plug connectors can be used for connecting both ­single-speed motors and 2-pole multi-speed motors. With brakemotors, the brake control system can be either located in the terminal box or in the control cabinet. All versions of the brake control system are possible.
Installed plug connectors type AC / AS

Optional for DR/DT/DV series AC motors and AC brake motors. The installed AC.. and AS.. connector systems are based on the Han 10E/10ES connector system made by Harting.
You can connect both motors with single speed and 2-pole multi-speed motors.
Plug connector type APG

Optional for DT/DV series AC motors and AC brake motors The APG plug connector is based on a plug manufactured by Phoenix Contact and ­consists of a four-part PlusCon VC. The mating connector is not included in the scope of delivery. The plug connector enables an easily disconnectable hybrid cable connection between the motor/brakemotor and an MF.../MM../Z.8A series field distributor with an integrated MOVIMOT® inverter or a suitable third-party decentralized control module.
Mounted plug connector type ASK1

Optional for DT/DV series AC motors and AC brake motors The installed ASK1 plug connector system is based on the Han 10ES plug connector system made by Harting. The plug connector is located at the side of the terminal box. The ASK1 plug connector system is used for ECOFAST®-compliant AC motors and AC brakemotors.
Carrier plate for ASK1
Optional for DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. If you want motor-integrated installation of an ECOFAST®-compliant switchgear or control unit, you require a carrier plate onto which the switchgear or ­control unit is plugged. The carrier plate can be used regardless of the motor size.
Proximity sensor type NV
Optional for DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. SEW-­EURODRIVE proximity sensors are a simple and inexpensive means of monitoring whether the motor is turning. If a two-track proximity sensor is used, the direction of rotation of the motor can also be detected. Proximity sensors are mounted on the side of the fan guard and so do not increase the length of the motor.
Incremental encoder type EH / ES / EV
Optional for DR/DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. SEW-EURODRIVE incremental encoders output 1024 signals/revolution. They have two signal tracks and one index signal track.
Incremental encoders are available as hollow shaft encoders, spreadshaft encoders and solid shaft encoders with coupling. Signal output: TTL or sin/cos.
Encoder mounting device for type ES / EV
Optional for DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. The motors can be equipped with various encoder attachment fittings for mounting devices from different manufacturers.
Mounting devices for encoders are intended for spreadshaft encoders with an 8 mm or 10 mm center bore and for solid shaft encoders (synchronous flange).
Absolute encoder type AV1Y / AV1H
SEW-EURODRIVE AV1Y and AV1H absolute encoders are combination encoders. They contain a multi-turn absolute encoder and a high-­resolution sinusoidal encoder. You can choose between an SSI interface or a HIPERFACE® interface for data transmission of absolute values. The AV1H absolute encoder has an electronic nameplate.
Forced cooling fan type VR / VS / V
DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors can be equipped with a forced cooling fan on request. A forced cooling fan is usually not required for mains operated motors in continuous duty. SEW-EURODRIVE recommends a forced cooling fan for the following applications:
  • Drives with high starting frequency
  • Drives with additional flywheel mass Z (flywheel fan)
  • Inverter drives with a setting range ≥ 1:20
  • Inverter drives that must also generate rated torque at low speeds or even when stationary
Additional flywheel mass Z
DR/DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors can be equipped with additional flywheel mass Z (flywheel fan) to facilitate smoother starting and braking response from mains-operated motors. The fan gives the motor an additional mass moment of inertia JZ. The flywheel fan replaces the normal fan and does not affect the external dimensions of the motor.
RS backstop
DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors can be equipped with a backstop if required. The backstop is used for protecting equipment against reverse movement when the motor is switched off.
Protection canopy C
Optional for DR/DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. Liquids and/or solid foreign objects can penetrate the air inlet openings of motors when motors are mounted vertically with their input shaft pointing downwards.
Low noise fan guard
Optional for DT/DV series AC motors and AC brakemotors. Motor noise is amplified by the drive fan guards. The low noise fan guard reduces the noise level by approximately 3 dB(A) when compared with the standard version.
WPU Smooth pole-change unit
For DR/DT/DV series multi-speed AC motors and AC brakemotors. ­Normal multi-speed motors cannot switch from high to low speed without jerks unless special measures are taken.
The WPU smooth pole-change unit completes this task electronically and requires minimal wiring work.

MOVITOOLS® operating software MotionStudio
The MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio program package allows you to conveniently start up, set parameters and run diagnostics for MOVITRAC® B frequency inverters and MOVIDRIVE® MDX60/61B drive inverters.
MDR60A regenerative power supply unit
The MDR60A regenerative power supply unit can be used to supply multiple units with power using a central power supply connection. In regenerative mode, the power is fed back into the supply system. By using MDR60A, you can save power and installation costs.
Braking resistor type BW
BW series braking resistors are available for operating MOVITRAC® B frequency inverters and MOVIDRIVE® MDX60/61B drive inverters as generators. Using an integrated temperature sensor, the resistor can be protected without external monitoring.
Line choke type ND
ND series line chokes increase inverter overvoltage protection. This is an important characteristic in rough industrial power supply systems, especially if the inverter is installed near a supply transformer.
Line filter type NF
NF type line filters are available for EMC compliant installation as specified by EN 55011. They suppress interference emissions on the line side of inverters. These line filters ensure that limit value class B is maintained on the supply end.
Output choke type HD
HD series output chokes suppress interference emitted from unshielded motor cables. They enable the motor to meet limit value class B requirements in accordance with EN 55011 in EMC-compliant installations. Output chokes provide an alternative to shielded motor cables in EMC-compliant installations.
Output filter type HF
HF series output filters are sine filters that smooth out inverter output voltage. Output filters are used for group drives to suppress discharge currents in motor cables and for long motor cables to prevent voltage peaks.

MOVIDRIVE® MDX60/61B is the new generation of drive inverters from SEW-EURODRIVE. The new B series MOVIDRIVE® drive inverters are impressive devices with extensive basic functions, a wide power range, great overload capacity and a modular unit design. They facilitate unrestricted application of AC drives with a power range of 0.55 to 160 kW (0.75 to 215 hp) with the most modern digital inverter technology.

With MOVIDRIVE®, even asynchronous AC motors can achieve levels of dynamic performance and control quality that were previously only possible using DC motors. The integrated control and expansion options using technology and communication options create remarkably cost-effective drive systems as regards diversity of application, project planning, startup and operation.


MOVIDRIVE® MDX 60/61B
High-performance drive inverter for dynamic drives in power range 0.55 to 160 kW (0.74 to 215 hp). Great diversity of applications due to extensive expansion options with technology and communication options. 3-phase mains connection for AC 230 V and AC 400 to 500 V.

Standard version
The units are equipped with the IPOSplus® integrated positioning and sequence control system as standard. They can also be expanded with the available options. The units in this series are also equipped with protection against restart in accordance with EN954-1, safety category 3. The standard version is indicated by “00” following the type designation.

Application version
In addition to the features of the standard design, these units include the “electronic cam” and “internal synchronous operation” technology functions. Furthermore, you can use all the application modules available in the MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio software package with the technology units. The application version is indicated by “0T” following the type designation.

Application modules
The application version inverters also provide access to the application modules. Application modules are standardized control programs specifically for positioning, winding, and controlling drive tasks. The application modules offer you the following advantages:

  • High functionality and user-friendly operator interface.
  • All you have to do is enter the parameters needed for the application.

MOVIDRIVE® B options

Options
Keypad type DBG60B
The keypad is used for startup and service. The basic unit, MOVIDRIVE® MDX60/61B, does not have a keypad as standard, but can be upgraded as an option.
HIPERFACE® encoder card type DEH11B
The option-capable MOVIDRIVE® MDX61B units can be equipped with the HIPERFACE® encoder card type DEH11B. The encoder card provides one input for the motor encoder and one input for an external encoder, also referred to as a synchronous encoder. The input for the external encoder can also be used as an output for incremental encoder simulation.
Resolver card type DER11B
Option-capable MOVIDRIVE® MDX61B units can be equipped with resolver card type DER11B. The resolver card offers one input for the resolver as motor encoder and one input for an external encoder, also referred to as a synchronous encoder. The input for the external encoder can also be used as an output for incremental encoder simulation.
DEH21B absolute encoder interface
The option-capable MOVIDRIVE® MDX61B units can be equipped with the DEH21B absolute encoder interface. The absolute encoder interface offers one input for the motor encoder and one input for an external absolute encoder with SSI interface.
DIP11B absolute encoder interface
Option-capable MOVIDRIVE® MDX61B units can be equipped with absolute encoder interface type DIP11B. Option DIP11B supplements MOVIDRIVE® with an SSI interface for absolute encoders.
Interface adapter type DWE11B/12B
The DWE11B/12B interface adapter in the form of an adapter cable is used to connect HTL encoders (single-ended HTL sensors and push-pull HTL sensors) to the DEH11B HIPERFACE® card.
Interface adapter type UWS21B
The UWS21B option converts RS-232 signals, for example from the PC, into RS-485 signals. These RS-485 signals can then be routed to the XT slot of the MOVIDRIVE® basic unit.
Interface adapter type USB11A
Option USB11A enables a PC or laptop with a USB interface to be connected to the XT slot of MOVIDRIVE®. The USB11A interface adapter supports USB 1.1 and USB 2.0.
Input/output card type DIO11B
Option-capable MOVIDRIVE® MDX61B units can be equipped with input/output card type DIO11B. The DIO11B option expands the binary and analog inputs and outputs of the basic MOVIDRIVE® unit.
